Satoshi Nakamoto is a pseudonym used by the creator of Bitcoin, who is anonymous to this date. When Nakamoto created the first Bitcoin in 2009, it was not clear whether the crypto would ever amount to anything. 13 years later, the coins held by Nakamoto are unspent and are worth billions of dollars, with Bitcoin reaching new highs. It remains unclear if this massive fortune will ever be claimed. Here’s how much Satoshi Nakamoto’s Bitcoins are worth today.
According to Whale Alert, Satoshi mined 1,125,150 tokens after creating Bitcoin, the largest cryptocurrency in the world. As of 27th October, the Bitcoin price was at $63,925. This makes the total value of Nakamoto’s tokens over $66 billion.
Bitcoin’s global adoption is soaring high, but details on Nakamoto’s identity and whereabouts remain a mystery. It is not clear if Satoshi Nakamoto is one person or a group of people who created Bitcoin.
The Bitcoins held by Nakamoto remain unspent up to now. In 2011, Satoshi bid an unexpected farewell to the cryptocurrency space and moved to ‘other things.’ In October, Peter Thiel, PayPal co-founder, said he might have unknowingly met Satoshi Nakamoto in 2000.
According to Thiel, he met a group of 200 people 21 years ago who wanted to promote a new currency that could challenge central banks’ monopoly. The PayPal co-founder believes Nakamoto could have been in amongst the group.
In September 2021, the first statue of Satoshi Nakamoto was unveiled in Hungary. The facial features of the bronze statue are not well-defined, and the figure has a hoodie.
In the meantime, the crypto industry is expanding globally. The total market capitalisation of all the cryptocurrencies recently crossed the $2.5 trillion milestone, according to CoinMarketCap.
